Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Championship in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, gained dominance to create a final set.

He defended 4 early break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
